An Aspie is often attracted to someone who shares his interests or passions, and this can form a good basis for their relationship. An Aspie needs time alone. Often the best thing the NT partner can do is give her Aspie the freedom of a few hours alone while she visits friends or goes shopping. An Aspie often has a particular interest or hobby. When friends ask me how I do it, I shrug and say something banal because it is useless to try to explain. The ease at which I get what I want can actually be frustrating.

As I slowly let it go so as not to burn bridges just in case I ever need that bridge again , I usually get some sort of a love confession. Maybe it annoys me because it reminds me that I am incapable of feeling anything back. Yet even more likely, it’s probably because it reinforces the fact that I’m failing in my search for another of equal mindset.

Without this, we get bored. We need a game, and an incompetent opponent is no fun after the first round. Save the emotional acts. I do manipulate, but I do recognize that if I want to remain in respectable societal standing, I have to play towards the emotions of the people I deal with. In my past relationships, I have had to fake what I am not feeling i. I can literally feel the insincerity seeping out of my pores.

What gets repressed will be expressed It involves emotions, and how partners work together to manage unmanageable emotion loads. They may not see it this way, but from my perspective it looks as though they are unconsciously dividing up and sharing emotions such that their partnership stays, although maybe uncomfortable, intact.

They seem to have identified only two emotional states: Distrubed emotional states are extremely uncomfortable and difficult to recover from, so, logically, many try not to get disturbed in the first place. Between the Aspie client and his emotions is an extremely effective dam, and he feels little control over how wide, if at all, the floodgates are opened. While there may not be an accurate sense of what feelings actually lie on the other side of this dam, what is felt is a real dread of the size and intensity of these unknown emotions.

Clients seem to spend much of their time avoiding this dread, and occupying their interests and attention to this end. They may spend time thickening the dam walls, by caking on layers of avoidance through distraction, compulsive working or even substance use. But, in fact, the dam does develop cracks. Minor cracks can bring anxiety and irritability, while major cracks can bring panic and apathy. And since, when feelings leak out, they really do tend to be overwhelming, this theory gains credence over time.
