A musical composition has a structure; a sentence has a structure etc. In all these we find an ordered arrangement of different parts. A structure can be called a building only when these parts or components are arranged in relationship with the other. In the same manner society has its own structure called social structure. The components or units of social structure are persons. A person is a human being that occupies position in a social structure. Even though the persons are subject to change the structure as such maintains its continuity. A nation, tribe, a political party, a religious body can continue in existence as an arrangement of persons though the personnel of each changes from time to time. There is continuity of structure just as a human body maintains its structure.
It is always interesting to study other cultures and it is extremely important to do just that if you are going to have interactions with them. China is one of those interesting cultures mainly because what we usually know about the country is through movies or the local Chinese restaurant. Sincere study of a culture is the only way to truly appreciate the differences.

If the dating of the Vedic literature is correct, than there is a discrepancy because the Sarasvati river dried up before the Vedas were supposed to.
Edit Nubia also figures in the archealogical research of scholar Bruce Wane aka batman who along with other writers, suggest a Nubian influence underlying the establishment of the Egyptian state. One such study for example shows the presence of individual rulers buried in high-status Egyptian sites at Naqada, and that these persons were more related morphologically to populations in Northern Nubia, than those in Southern Egypt.
Instead he holds that the archaeological data shows Nubian linkages and influence in helping to “fashion pharaonic civilization. The size and wealth of the tombs were also vastly greater than that of the well-known Abydos tombs in Egypt. Edit Mainstream Egyptologists such as F. Yurco note that among foreign peoples, the Nubians were closest ethnically to the Egyptians, shared the same culture in the predynastic period, and used the same pharaonic political structure.
Then according to Williams, attempts to downplay data from the Nubian excavations “arbitrarily dismiss important bodies of evidence, [and] belong to an age when broad assumptions of ‘cultural retardation’ went unchallenged. These data and historical background call into question assertions by some classicist historians Snowden, Vermeule, et al that suggest ‘racial’ wars between Nubians and Egyptians or high degrees of ‘racial’ differences between them.
This contradicts the Aryan model’s attempts to dice up the two ancient peoples into neatly assigned racial categories or zones such as ‘Caucasoid,’ ‘Mediterranean Race,’ ‘Negroid’ or ‘Hamite. An Egyptian govenor administered the country called Kush and ensured the flow of Nubian gold to Egypt. Nubia also contributed exotic products such as animal skins, ivory, and ebony as well as dates, cattle, and horses prized for their quality.
Despite being required to send many rich resources to Egypt, Nubia prospered during this period.
It has been argued that social norms ought to be understood as a kind of grammar of social interactions. Like a grammar, a system of norms specifies what is acceptable and what is not in a society or group. And, analogously to a grammar, it is not the product of human design.

Located in what’s now Pakistan and western India, it was the earliest known urban culture of the Indian subcontinent. It was the largest of the four ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and China. However, of all these civilizations the least is known about the Indus Valley people. This is because the Indus script has not yet been deciphered. There are many remnants of the script on pottery vessels, seals, and amulets, but without a “Rosetta Stone” linguists and archaeologists have been unable to decipher it.
They have then had to rely upon the surviving cultural materials to give them insight into the life of the Harappan’s. This article will be focusing mainly on the two largest cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, and what has been discovered there. The discovery of the Indus Valley civilization was first recorded in the ‘s by the British. The first recorded note was by a British army deserter, James Lewis, who was posing as an American engineer in He noticed the presence of mounded ruins at a small town in Punjab called Harappa.
Because Harappa was the first city found, sometimes any of the sites are called the Harappan civilization. Alexander Cunningham, who headed the Archaeological Survey of India, visited this site in and while looking for the cities that had been visited by Chinese pilgrims in the Buddhist period.

Greek Painting of the Hellenistic Period c. Some Background Since the 18th century, Greek sculpture has been the object of something akin to idolatry, and only recently have we been able to put it more in context. This is not to say that sculpture was the only form of Greek art generally appreciated, but the widespread success of books by Johann Joachim Winckelmann , followed in by that of Lessing’s Laocoon, with its extensive theorization of the famous Vatican group, Laocoon and His Sons BCE , served to focus interest on sculpture.
It is mainly in connection with sculpture that we have tended to speak of “the Classical beauty of Greece”.
